Reports indicate that the funeral of Homa Soltani, the daughter of Abdolfattah Soltani, a lawyer imprisoned in Iran, was attended by people and their slogans.

Abdul Fattah Soltani, a prominent lawyer and one of the founders of the "Center for Human Rights Defenders", has been in prison for seven years for defending the cases of political and ideological defendants, on charges of "propaganda against the system" and "forming a group to act against national security".

According to images sent to Voice of America, following the death of Mr. Soltani's daughter, a group of people attended his funeral on Monday, August 6, and chanted slogans in support of Mr. Soltani, "Peace be upon Soltani" and "Condolences to the courageous lawyer."

At the same ceremony, Masoumeh Dehghan, Mr. Soltani's wife, thanked those who attended the funeral and said that this injustice of seven years of separation from his father will be recorded in history. Mr. Soltani was present at the ceremony following his release from prison.

In a statement issued on the occasion of their daughter's death, Abdolfattah Soltani and Masoumeh Dehghan wrote: "Our child and the child of the Iranian nation and an example for millions of other young people who are born in a difficult time filled with human suffering and live in worry and suffering. Some also impatiently embark on the journey; but "Homay Saadat Ma" chose the path of travel to eternity and finally joined eternity."

The US State Department tweeted in Persian that it offered condolences to the family of Homa Soltani on her passing.

Following the death of Mr. Soltani's 27-year-old daughter, a group of political and civil activists and a group of political prisoners expressed their sympathy for the lawyer.

The condolence message, signed by nine prisoners, including Maryam Akbari Monfared, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraei, Azita Rafizadeh, Nazanin Zaghari, Nasrin Sotoudeh, Negin Ghadmian, Sima Kiani, Atena Daemi, and Narges Mohammadi, states: "Tolerating this suffering in the eighth year of imprisonment will not be easy for you, a grieving father, one of the most steadfast defenders of human rights, and one of the most compassionate national figures of this land, and for you, a loving and supportive mother of civil society in Iran."

On Saturday, a group of human rights activists also went to the lawyer's house to express their sympathy.
