A young man accused of murder at the age of 17 faces the risk of execution in Mahabad prison.

The death sentence of Daniyal Zein al-Abedin, a man accused of murdering a person under the age of 18, will be carried out after the month of Ramadan.
The Iranian Human Rights Organization reported on Tuesday, May 27, that one of Daniyal Zein al-Abedin's relatives said that unofficial sources had informed the prisoner's family that his death sentence was to be carried out after the end of Ramadan, and that the family had also provided the difference in blood money.
This informed source told the Iranian Human Rights Organization: "Daniel suffered severe mental problems due to psychological pressure and lost control and injured his entire hand and body."
Seyyed Daniyal Zein al-Abedin, born on August 9, 2000, was arrested when he was 17 years old on charges of participating in the murder and arson of Sadeq Barmaki along with three other young men that occurred on September 21, 2017, and was sentenced to death by Mahabad Criminal Court No. 1. This verdict was confirmed by Branch 37 of the Supreme Court.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Organization, the issuance and confirmation of the death sentence for Daniyal Zein al-Abedin took place despite the fact that, according to relatives and evidence in his case, he had no role in the burning of Sadegh Barmaki (the deceased), and according to the forensic opinion, the main cause of the victim's death was burning in the fire.
Amnesty International announced in a report in May that Iran alone has been responsible for 97 executions of children under the age of 18 in the world since 1990, equivalent to two-thirds of all such executions.
Amnesty International has documented 90 cases of people who were under 18 at the time of the crime and are currently on death row in Iran, although the actual number is likely higher.
Earlier, Amnesty International announced in a report on April 11 that the global death penalty execution rate had decreased in 2018, but one-third of the "executions recorded globally" this year, a total of 253, were carried out in Iran.
