Iran's Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development: Seven new cities will be created

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and CEO of the New Cities Development Company says that seven new cities have been located in the country and that they have received approvals from the Supreme Council of Architecture and Urban Development, and that we are planning to create these cities.
Habibollah Taherkhani told IRNA on Tuesday, July 12, that 17 new state-owned cities with a capacity of about four million people are currently being built on 40,000 hectares of state-owned land, and that 800,000 people have settled in these cities, and their population is expected to reach more than 2.5 million in the next five years.
He said that Parand is currently the most populous new city in the country, followed by the cities of Andisheh, Sadra, Pardis, and Golbahar.
Taherkhani continued by saying that we recently launched two new cities between the cities of Chabahar and Konarak and Ivanaki in Semnan province, 55 kilometers from Tehran.
He is referring to the project to build towns and cities within the framework of the "Mehr Housing" plan, which has led to widespread protests and dissatisfaction over the poor quality of buildings and lack of infrastructure in recent years. This project began during the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
On the other hand, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on July 12, during the commissioning of one of his government's latest projects, that "the government has no responsibility for housing construction, but the government is responsible for providing facilities."
Reports indicate that the delay in the delivery of Mehr housing units under the pretext of controlling inflation has caused disruptions in the supply and construction of housing, which has led to an increase in the migration of people to the outskirts of cities and the sale or rental of rooftops and multi-story buildings for storage use in Iran.
