Honor killing: Young girl set on fire by her father

A surgeon posted on his personal page, reporting that a young girl was set on fire by her father on suspicion that she had a boyfriend. The 22-year-old girl, who suffered 85 percent burns, died hours ago despite the efforts of medical staff. However, according to the doctor, the young girl's father is free. Iranian law includes provisions to exempt those who commit "honor killings" from severe punishment.
According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, today, Sunday, October 1, 2021, a surgeon announced the death of a young girl after being set on fire by her father.
Surgeon Iman Navabi, in a post on her personal page, announced the news, stating that the reason the 22-year-old girl was set on fire by her father was “because she had a boyfriend” and that the father was free. According to her, the young girl died after enduring a lot of pain, which only involved the initial surgery to remove all the burned areas and amputate both hands.
The identity of the victim, the city where the incident occurred, and further details of this incident are being investigated by HRANA.
It should be noted that under the Islamic Penal Code, a father who kills his child is sentenced to pay blood money and imprisonment if convicted in court. In some cases, fathers have committed murder after considering that a father cannot be executed for killing his child.
On the other hand, Iranian laws include provisions to exempt individuals who commit "honor killings" from severe punishments.
