The Free Workers Union protests the continued prosecution of those arrested during the International Workers' Day rally.

In separate statements, the Free Union of Iranian Workers and the Center for Human Rights Defenders called on Iranian government officials to end the prosecution of those arrested during the International Labor Day rally and to release imprisoned labor activists.

In recent weeks, some labor activists, including Hirad Pirbadaghi, Asal Mohammadi, Mahmoud Salehi, and Osman Esmaili, have been summoned and arrested by security agencies after International Labor Day rallies.

The Free Union of Iranian Workers, referring to the arrest of at least 30 labor activists, the issuance of a prosecution order for some activists, and the filing of legal cases against these activists, has announced that these arrests are a continuation of the "government's repression and revenge."

The union also called for the immediate and unconditional release of imprisoned labor activists Mahmoud Salehi, Osman Esmaili, and Hirad Pirbadaghi.

The Center for Human Rights Defenders also issued a statement, noting that discrimination against and suppression of workers has a long history in the Islamic Republic, and condemned the suppression and arrest of workers, the prevention of their gatherings, and the treatment of labor supporters, activists, and lawyers defending these citizens.

International Workers' Day, which falls on May 1st and coincides with Saturday, May 11, is a day when large gatherings are held annually around the world to appreciate workers.

Workers around the world try to make their voices heard by leaders and officials of countries and raise their demands in peaceful marches and rallies on this day. However, in Iran, in recent years, labor gatherings have been accompanied by repression and legal prosecution of union activists.
