Ban on leaving the country and imprisonment of "Shervin Hajipour"

Popular singer Shervin Hajipour was sentenced to imprisonment and banned from leaving the country.

Popular singer Shervin Hajipour sang and released "Woman, Life, Freedom" after the protests, inspired by posts from Iranian users on social media. In this song, she addressed the problems of the people. After the song was released, she was arrested and held for a while, before being released on bail in October of the same year.

The song "For" was widely received both inside and outside Iran and won the award for "Song for Social Change" at the 65th Grammy Awards.

Shervin Hajipour was sentenced again by the Islamic Republic’s judiciary to multiple punishments, including imprisonment, making music against American crimes, and a ban on leaving the country. Shervin Hajipour published the verdict issued against him by the Revolutionary Court on his Instagram account today, Friday, March 11. In publishing the verdict, he also thanked his lawyers, Mr. Amir Raisian, Majid Kaveh, and Adel Alipour, who had worked hard for his case.

According to the verdict issued against Mr. Hajipour, he was sentenced to eight months in prison for the charge of "propaganda against the system" and to three years in prison for the charge of "seducing and inciting people to riots with the intention of disrupting the security of the country," of which the most severe punishment, three years in prison, is applicable.

He was also convicted of “studying and collecting handwritten material from two religious and government books about women” and publishing it online, “making music about US crimes against humanity,” and “collecting human rights violations by the US government over the past century and publishing it online.” Other sentences issued to him include a “two-year ban on leaving the country” and “participating in a course on behavioral skills and knowledge in the field of art.”

Shervin Hajipour posted on Instagram today, referring to his program manager, "Mehziar," and said: "Dear Mehziar, my program manager, even though he had no involvement in the production of the song "Bari," was considered my accomplice and was present in all court hearings and never left me alone for a moment. I will not name any judge or prosecutor who is not attacked, insulted, and threatened, because insults and threats are not part of human nature, and one day we will finally understand each other."
