Nasrin Sotoudeh elected as honorary member of the Italian Criminal Court

According to Amnesty International, on Monday, April 10, the Italian Criminal Court appointed Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer imprisoned in Iran, as an honorary member of the court.

Ms. Sotoudeh has been imprisoned many times in recent years. While she is still in prison, she was sentenced in a new verdict to 38 years in prison and 148 lashes.

On Monday, April 2, Paris Mayor Patrick Klugman issued a statement announcing the granting of honorary citizenship of Paris to Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer imprisoned in Iran, for her role in defending human rights in Iran.

The US State Department, the international community, and civil society activists from around the world condemned the prison and flogging sentence imposed on Ms. Sotoudeh and called on Iranian authorities to release her.
