Seven earthquakes in the Persian Gulf; at least four injured in Kish

Seven earthquakes occurred on Wednesday in the waters around Kish Island in southern Iran, causing tremors in areas in Hormozgan and Fars provinces, as well as Dubai and other areas of the Persian Gulf.

The United States Geological Survey announced that six earthquakes measuring 4 to less than 5 on the Richter scale, as well as a 5.5 magnitude earthquake, occurred near Kish.

The Islamic Republic's state-run news agency, IRNA, says the earthquakes caused panic and concern among people in areas surrounding the epicenter, including Kish Island and southern Fars Province.

According to the report, the earthquakes shook the Charak and Jinah regions of Hormozgan province between 10:25 and 11:52 a.m. Authorities said assessment teams were checking various areas for damage. They said relief teams had also been dispatched.

Iranian state television also reported that authorities had dispatched relief teams to the city of Jinnah in Hormozgan province.

The Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA, reported, quoting the CEO of the Kish Free Zone Organization, that four people were injured due to fear and running away during the earthquake.

The Associated Press also reported that people in the United Arab Emirates felt the earthquake. A similar report came from Qatar.
