There are "two million and 808 thousand drug addicts" in Iran

An official from Iran's Anti-Narcotics Headquarters estimated the number of drug addicts in the country at more than two million and 800 thousand people and said that drug use among Iranians has increased in the past three decades.
Nasser Aslani, Deputy Director for Countering Supply and International Affairs of the Anti-Narcotics Headquarters, stated: "After the victory of the Islamic Revolution from 1978 to 2017, the prevalence of drugs in the country decreased, but since 2017, drug consumption in the country has increased."
He then stated that there are 2.8 million 808 thousand regular addicts and 1.6 million recreational drug users in the country.
According to statistics from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Iran is one of the largest drug transit routes, along with Central Asia, Pakistan, and India, and every year it seizes a large amount of various drugs.
In August of this year, one of the directors of Iran's Anti-Narcotics Headquarters stated that the drug turnover in the country was "167 trillion tomans," which is equivalent to 40 percent of Iran's annual budget.
