Tehran police announce arrest of suspect accused of "raping dozens of female students"

On Tuesday, September 24, the Tehran Police Commander announced the arrest of a man accused of sexually harassing and raping dozens of girls.
Fars News Agency, citing Tehran Police Commander Hossein Rahimi, wrote that police officers arrested this individual, named "Keyvan Imamvardi," today.
The news of the suspect's arrest came after dozens of female Twitter and Instagram users exposed him, one after another, last week accusing him of "raping them after feeding them wine laced with anesthetics."
The scope of this revelation, which began with the hashtag "sexual harassment," has expanded greatly in recent days, and some famous figures in various fields have also been implicated in the revelations.
The Tehran Police Chief cited the reason for Mr. Imam Verdi's arrest as "the volume of complaints and the hurt to public sentiments in society," and said: "All complainants can refer to the Public Security Police to file a complaint, with the assurance that their identities will be protected by the police."
The revelations of the past few days on Persian-language social networks are reminiscent of the MeToo movement that began on social media in 2017, and a large number of women around the world used this title and hashtag to highlight and condemn the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace.
