Four Inmates Executed in Birjand Prison

This Tuesday morning, death sentences for four inmates in Birjand Prison were carried out.

This Tuesday morning, on the 11th of Ordibehesht, death sentences for four inmates charged with drug-related crimes were executed in Birjand Prison, among them one woman was also executed.

According to published reports, these inmates were detained on charges of drug-related crimes and subsequently sentenced to death by judicial authorities. The identities of three of them are “Mehdi Eshterak” from Serah Mirzakhoun village in Zehak city, “Mohammad Shahbakhsh” and “Mahmoud Gorgij” from Zahedan.

It should be noted that as of now, the news of these executions has not been announced by prison officials or government institutions.

The execution of these individuals on charges related to drug crimes, and many other individuals who have been executed for this reason, took place while the Islamic Republic government itself is one of the largest importers of narcotics from other countries.

According to annual statistics published by the Statistics Center and the Human Rights Activists Network in Iran, in the past year (1402), at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 children, were executed, of which 7 death sentences were carried out in public.
