Coronavirus in Iran; 14 provinces in red status, 215 more deaths

A spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health says that 14 provinces are currently in red status and 12 provinces are in alert status.
Sima Lari announced the identification of 2,598 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, and the death toll from the virus has reached 215 during this period. This is while the death toll for the previous day was 208, which shows an increasing trend.
Including the new statistics, the official number of coronavirus deaths in Iran has reached 17,405.
This daily statistic is announced despite not being confirmed by independent institutions, and some sources have said that this statistic is many times higher.
The Iranian Parliament Research Center has estimated in a report that the number of victims is at least twice the official figure.
Ms. Lari explained on Monday that the central provinces of Markazi, Gilan, and Yazd have been moved from alert status to red status, meaning that cases and hospitalizations in more of their counties have been increasing.
He also said that the provinces of Fars, Ilam, Lorestan, Hormozgan, Zanjan, Qazvin, West Azerbaijan, Bushehr, Hamedan, Qom, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad are also on alert.
Health Ministry officials, as usual, refuse to provide disaggregated statistics on the spread of the coronavirus in different provinces.
