A group of teachers gathered in front of the Ministry of Education in Tehran.

A group of teachers from across Iran held a protest rally in front of the Ministry of Education building in Tehran on Monday, May 2, to protest against not receiving their salary.

According to the Free Workers Union, teachers protested the current situation at the rally by chanting slogans such as "Unqualified minister, resign, resign."

The Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers' Unions issued a call on Friday, April 20, for a nationwide and widespread gathering of Iranian teachers to protest the authorities' lack of attention to their demands on the rights of teachers, on National Teacher's Day. Teachers and educators held protest rallies several times in different provinces of Iran last year.

This is not the first time that teachers in Iran have held protest rallies. Last year, teachers and educators in various cities in Iran held protest rallies several times to protest the living conditions of teachers, discrimination in payments, the lack of free educational facilities for all citizens, and insurance problems.

The US State Department wrote on its Persian Twitter account on Wednesday, March 5, 2018: "The world hears the voices of Iranian teachers, but Iran's leaders continue to prefer Bashar al-Assad, Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis to their own people."
