One year after expelling Iranian ambassador: Albania expels two diplomats from the Islamic Republic's embassy

On Wednesday, January 15, the Albanian government issued an order to expel two diplomats from the Islamic Republic of Iran from this Eastern European country, a NATO member.

According to Reuters, the names of the two diplomats were introduced in the Albanian Foreign Ministry statement as “Mohammad Ali Arzpima Nemati” and “Ahmed Hosseini Elset.” Albania stated the reason for the action was “the conduct of non-diplomatic activities by abusing the diplomatic position” by these diplomats – a term usually used for #espionage activities.

This move by Tirana comes more than a year after the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador from the country. Albania hosts members of the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization.
