Iranian Red Crescent "complains" against former IRGC commander

The Iranian Red Crescent Society announced that it is suing Saeed Ghasemi, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, for "using the cover" of the society "for military purposes" in the Bosnian War.

In an interview with an internet program, Mr. Ghasemi said that in the 1970s, together with Hossein Allahkaram, he went to Bosnia under the "cover" of the Red Crescent forces and provided military training to Muslim forces there.

He said he was raising this issue because it had already been "revealed and the Americans had written about it in their books."

However, the Red Crescent Society announced: "If an individual or institution has misused the emblem and uniform of the Iranian Red Crescent Society in a way that is contrary to the goals and principles of this international organization, it has certainly been done without the permission and coordination of this society. Even if there were coordination and permission, such an action would definitely not be allowed."

The announcement emphasizes that the Red Crescent "is neutral in armed conflicts according to the four Geneva Conventions, as it has an important task of protecting humanity and assisting civilians."
