Israeli cargo ship targeted in 'missile attack attributed to Iran'

On Thursday, April 25, Israeli media reported an Iranian missile attack on an Israeli cargo ship in the Arabian Sea.

According to the Channel 12 news site, the shipping company XT Management, based in the Port of Haifa, owns this cargo ship.

The ship, which was sailing from Tanzania to India, was able to continue its journey after a missile attack attributed to Iran.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman told Reuters that they were reviewing the reports received.

Other Israeli officials and official institutions have so far declined to comment on the incident.

About a month ago, an Israeli cargo ship was targeted in a suspicious incident near the Sea of Oman. The ship, named MV Helios Ray, sailing under the flag of the Bahamas, was damaged in four places on March 29 after a mysterious explosion that left four holes in its hull.

Israeli officials blamed the Islamic Republic of Iran for the attack, but the Iranian government "categorically" denied the accusation.

Two weeks after this accident, an Iranian container ship named "Iran Shahrekord" was involved in an accident in international waters of the Mediterranean Sea on March 10. In response to the accident that occurred to the Shahrekord, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that "the finger of accusation" was pointed at Israel.

Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized in a press conference on March 15 that if it is determined "which parties were involved in this sabotage operation," the Iranian government will use all options "to defend its rights."

In a report published last week, the Haaretz newspaper wrote that Israel's multiple attacks on more than dozens of Iranian tankers in recent years have caused billions of dollars in damage to the Iranian government.

The Wall Street Journal also published a report on March 11 stating that since late 2019, Israel has targeted at least 12 ships carrying Iranian oil bound for Syria.

According to this report, a number of the ships that were targeted were carrying weapons from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

A maritime security source had previously told Reuters that in recent weeks, three other Iranian ships had suffered accidents while crossing the Red Sea for "unknown" reasons.
