Tel Aviv and Tehran make significant jumps in the list of the world's most expensive cities

In the latest global cost of living index, Tel Aviv, a coastal metropolis in central Israel, was named the most expensive city in the world to live in.

In this list, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit on Wednesday, Tehran has also jumped 50 places from 79th to 29th place on the list of the most expensive cities in the world, following rising inflation and rising prices.

The Economist Intelligence Unit provides one of the world's most authoritative economic indicators based on a comparison of the prices of goods and services in 173 cities around the world.

AFP reported on Wednesday, December 1, that for the first time, Tel Aviv has topped the list of the world's most expensive cities.

The increase in the price of food and the increase in the cost of transportation in Israel, along with the actions of the country's government that led to the strengthening of the national currency against the US dollar, are apparently the main reasons for Tel Aviv's jump to the top of the list of expensive cities in the world.

The cost of living, and especially the cost of food, has increased dramatically worldwide due to a decline in the supply of goods and services and the steep rise in insurance costs for ships carrying grain and food.

Israeli media outlets are constantly publishing field reports indicating that Israelis are paying several times more for their shopping carts than they did before the coronavirus pandemic, while incomes have not increased and many people, especially young people, have still lost their limited income due to the ongoing restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
