“80 percent of sexual assault cases in Iran go unreported”

Saeed Madani, a sociologist, emphasized that 80 percent of sexual rape cases in Iran are not reported, saying: "The highest number of rapes" reported are from Tehran province.
In an interview published in the Shargh newspaper on Saturday, August 16, he stated that the number of reported sexual assaults in Tehran province is 1,650 cases annually.
According to Mr. Madani, the results of some case studies show that rape victims in Kohgiliyye and Boyer-Ahmad provinces had an average age of 20 years, and some victims were 7 years old.
He says another case study shows that in Isfahan province, the average age of rape victims was 23.
Emphasizing that "protection for rape victims in Iranian law is minimal," the sociologist said, "We have no accurate assessment of rape victims in the country."
