Franklin Graham's support for Donald Trump and his role in developments in Iran

Franklin Graham's support for Donald Trump has come at a time when this support is accompanied by different reactions and narratives about Iran.

In his latest move on the social network Truth Social, US President Donald Trump published a letter from Franklin Graham, a well-known figure in evangelical Christianity and head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, in which he supported his approach towards Iran and his policies towards regional developments.

In the letter, dated March 2, 2026, Franklin Graham praised Trump for what he called “giving the Iranian people a chance for freedom” and described him as a politician who, unlike previous administrations, does not delay difficult decisions. In part, he wrote to Trump: “You are doing the right thing. Other presidents have delayed this issue for too long and not made the hard decisions. You are making the world safer.”

The letter was released at a time when the political climate surrounding Iran and the role of the United States in recent developments remains a subject of widespread debate and disagreement. Trump's narratives have referenced internal developments in Iran, as well as claims of widespread casualties during the protests, and within this framework, have justified his tough policies against Iran's nuclear program.

In contrast, these positions have been met with mixed reactions in political and religious circles. For example, the criticisms raised against Pope Leo's positions on US military actions against Iran indicate a difference of opinion among some religious and political leaders in the West.

Overall, the publication of this letter and its reflection on social media have once again highlighted the connection between politics, religion, and narrative creation about developments in the Middle East; a connection that continues to be accompanied by different and sometimes conflicting perceptions of the realities on the ground.
