Head of Iran's Traffic Police Calls for Import of High-Quality Cars

The head of Iran's traffic police said that importing high-quality cars is necessary to reduce traffic accidents in the country.

On Sunday, April 11, Kamal Hadianfar, referring to the annual death toll of 27,000 people in accidents in the years before 2007, added: "Importing safe cars reduced these fatalities to 17,000 people per year."

The head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NAJA) criticized the low quality and inefficiency of parts for domestically produced vehicles, calling the performance of domestic automakers indefensible.

The driving official had previously said that in 93 percent of cases, airbags in domestic cars do not deploy during traffic accidents.
