ISIS Claims Responsibility for Killing a Christian Family in Pakistan

The extremist Islamist group ISIS claimed responsibility on Tuesday for the killing of four members of a Christian family in southwestern Pakistan.

In a statement by the group, it was stated that armed men affiliated with ISIS attacked Christians who were traveling on a rickshaw to the city of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, on Monday, and during this attack, four of them were killed.

The family had come to the Shahzaman area of Quetta to visit their relatives, which is an area where a significant number of members of the Christian community in the city reside. According to Muzam Jah Ansari, an official at the Quetta police, it appears that this family was deliberately targeted in the attack, and based on evidence, the attack was a terrorist attack.

The shooting of the family occurred one day after Pakistani Christians celebrated Easter celebrations.

Approximately 2 percent of Pakistan’s population of two hundred million are Christians.
The celebration of religious minority festivals in this country, whose majority is Sunni Muslim, is always accompanied by security concerns, and attacks against Christians or Shiites in the country have occurred repeatedly.

Balochistan, Pakistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, is considered one of Pakistan’s unsafe regions and has been plagued for years by violence from extremist groups affiliated with the Taliban, al-Qaeda, and ISIS.

ISIS has members in both Afghanistan and Pakistan, and many extremist militias in these two countries support the fanatical views of ISIS against Shiite Muslims and non-Muslims and cooperate with ISIS.
