Salar and Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani Launch Hunger Strike in Urmia Prison

Hrana News Agency – Salar and Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani, political prisoners in Urmia Prison, began a hunger strike today, Monday, December 13th, in protest against the non-implementation of the principle of separation of crimes. These two prisoners simultaneously launched a sit-in in front of the Urmia Prison officer’s office while on their hunger strike.
According to Hrana News Agency, the news organization of the Iran Human Rights Activists Network, Salar and Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani, political prisoners held in Urmia Prison, launched a hunger strike today, Monday, December 13th, 1400 (Persian calendar).
The hunger strike by these two prisoners, which coincided with a sit-in in front of the Urmia Prison officer’s office, was in protest against the non-implementation of the principle of separation of crimes.
An informed source told Hrana’s correspondent: “A number of prisoners convicted of common crimes (theft) have been assigned by prison officials to harass and torment political prisoners”.
Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani, son of Sadegh, along with his son Salar Sadegh Hamadani and daughter Maryam, were arrested on March 25, 2019, and transferred to the central prison of this city on May 23, 2019. Maryam Sadegh Hamadani, who was transferred to the women’s ward of this prison, was released from Urmia Prison on May 25, 2019, upon payment of bail.
Ibrahim and Salar Sadegh Hamadani were ultimately sentenced by Branch 2 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court to 16 years imprisonment each on charges including “action against national security through membership in one of the opposition organizations” and “propaganda activity against the system”.
Salar Sadegh Hamadani was transferred on August 5, 2020, along with his father Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani from Urmia Prison to the detention facility of the Urmia Intelligence Office. Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani was transferred from this security agency’s detention facility to Urmia Prison on August 8, 2020. Salar Sadegh Hamadani was also returned to prison on August 21, 2020. These two political prisoners were accused during interrogation of “propaganda activity against the system in prison”.
Additionally, Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani and his son Salar Sadegh Hamadani were sentenced to 11 months imprisonment in a new case in prison on charges of propaganda activity against the system, and this sentence was announced in person to these citizens by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court on Sunday, August 23, 1400 (Persian calendar).
They were transferred from Urmia Prison to this security agency’s detention facility in early November of the current year and were ultimately returned to prison on November 25.
It is reported that Ibrahim Sadegh Hamadani was previously arrested in 2005 on charges of cooperation with one of the opposition organizations and was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment. After serving two years, he was released conditionally.
