Nasrin Sotoudeh Appointed as Honorary Member of Italian Criminal Court

According to Amnesty International, on Monday, April 20, the Italian Criminal Court appointed “Nasrin Sotoudeh,” an imprisoned lawyer in Iran, as an honorary member of the court.
Ms. Sotoudeh has been imprisoned repeatedly in recent years. While still imprisoned, she was sentenced in a new ruling to 38 years in prison and 148 lashes.
On Monday, April 12, “Patrick Klotzmann,” the Mayor of Paris, issued a statement announcing the granting of honorary Parisian citizenship to Nasrin Sotoudeh, an imprisoned lawyer in Iran, due to her role in defending human rights in Iran.
The U.S. State Department, the international community, and civil activists from around the world condemned the prison and lashing sentence issued for Ms. Sotoudeh and have called on Iranian authorities for her release.
