Flooding in the cities of Dezful and Shushtar following heavy rain

Iranian media are reporting severe flooding in some parts of Khuzestan province, including the cities of Dezful and Shushtar, following heavy rain.
On Sunday, November 20, IRNA news agency reported, quoting the CEO of the Khuzestan Red Crescent Society, that 40 families in Shushtar city have been affected by the heavy rains, and rescuers from the Shushtar Red Crescent Society are providing relief and setting up and equipping an emergency shelter camp in one of the schools in the region to house the families affected by the flooding.
The report continues by stating that the Khuzestan Meteorological Department had previously issued a yellow level warning in a notice regarding the arrival of a widespread precipitation system in Khuzestan province from Saturday, November 19, until late Tuesday of this week.
Also, images published on social media indicate severe flooding in one of the markets in the city of Shushtar.
On the other hand, the Director General of Khuzestan's Crisis Management also announced in an interview with ISNA news agency that Shushtar had the most rainfall with about 40 millimeters and Dezful with 23 millimeters, and about 10 residential houses in Dezful were also flooded. However, this news agency reported some time after the flooding had subsided.
Although southern Iranian cities have witnessed severe and devastating floods many times in recent years, the leaders of the Islamic Republic have so far failed to prevent the widespread financial and human losses that occur during these events.
Environmental activists, referring to the concerns of residents of dilapidated areas in these areas about their houses collapsing, say that the failure to dredge the rivers after past floods, on the one hand, and the lack of any management to protect the river's course, on the other, have resulted in the rivers not having the necessary capacity to carry away rainwater.
