Ahvaz Fire Department: If the Mahziar Complex parking lot is lowered, 2,000 people will die

The head of the Ahvaz Municipality Fire and Safety Services Organization says that the "City Center Mahziar" building and many hospitals in Ahvaz are in a much more serious condition than the Metropol building, and if the City Center parking lot collapses, two thousand people will be killed.

Ebrahim Ghanbari said on Tuesday, June 7: The Ahvaz Fire Department has identified 409 buildings, including arcades, city centers, parking lots, gas stations, student dormitories, cinemas, hospitals, and buildings 10 stories and higher, in the city of Ahvaz as unsafe and critical, and has issued warnings for them.

According to him, "The current situation in Mahziar City Center, Ahvaz, is a disaster; if the parking lot of Mahziar City Center is demolished, we will have two thousand deaths."

The Mahziar Ahvaz complex, on a land area of 1,400 square meters, has 175 commercial units, a traditional rooftop restaurant, a two-story amusement park, and a two-story hypermarket.

After the collapse of the Metropole Tower in Abadan on June 2nd, which has left more than 40 people dead, the debate over unsafe buildings has intensified in Iran.

Meanwhile, Tehran Prosecutor Ali Salehi says that at a meeting of the High-Risk Buildings Safety Committee, it was approved to summon the owners and board members of critical buildings in Tehran's District 6 to the Tehran Prosecutor's Office.

ISNA news agency reported that for the first time in July 2020, a list of unsafe buildings in Tehran was announced, divided into 22 districts: Vague and contradictory comments about the list of dangerous buildings in the Iranian capital are being made at a time when similar statistics in the country have not been discussed so far.

Also, IRNA news agency recently reported that there are currently 33,000 unsafe buildings and more than 23,000 low-risk buildings in the Tehran metropolis.

The report adds that the safety situation of 129 buildings is "critical" and the situation of 3,488 buildings is "highly dangerous." "Each of these buildings alone, in the event of severe subsidence or collapse, could leave behind the footprints of the collapse and fire of the Plasco building, the accident at the cruise company, and the explosion at the Sinamar Clinic, and cause other irreparable accidents."

The "Insaf News" website had previously reported, referring to a list of 129 critical buildings in Tehran, that the names of Bu-Ali Hospital, Fajr, Shohada Yaftabad, Fayyaz Bakhsh, Ghiyashi, Ziaian, Tarfeh, and Shahid Shahabadi Medical Center were included in the list.

Shahed University, Dr. Shariati Technical and Vocational University, and Yadegar Imam University have also been identified as unsafe buildings in Tehran.
