Trial of Tehran-Tabas plane crash suspects begins after six years

On Wednesday, July 8, Iranian media reported the first hearing of the charges against those responsible for the Tehran-Tabas plane crash after six years.
On August 9, 2014, Sepahan Airlines' Antonov 140 aircraft experienced severe shaking shortly after taking off from the runway, suddenly hitting the ground and bursting into flames.
The accident resulted in the deaths of 40 passengers and the injury of eight others.
The court hearing is scheduled to address the charges against four people, including the then head of the Civil Aviation Organization, the director general of the Flight Operations Office, the then director general of the Engineering Office, and the deputy director of flight standards at the Civil Aviation Organization.
As the Iran newspaper wrote: According to the indictment, these individuals are charged with "assistance in the premeditated murder of 40 people," "participation in abetting the premeditated murder of 40 people," and "participation in abetting the premeditated assault of eight people."
Reza Jafarzadeh, the public relations director of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, announced 18 months after the accident that "technical defect" was the main cause of the plane crash.
