Sima Sadat Lari, a spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health, says that over the past 24 hours, 191 patients with coronavirus have lost their lives, bringing the total number of coronavirus victims in Iran to 53,816.

The statistics of the Iranian Ministry of Health have always been questioned by some sources, including officials from the Iranian Medical System Organization, and officials from this organization believe that the actual number of coronavirus victims in Iran is three to four times the number announced by the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health spokesperson also announced the identification of 6,151 new patients. Thus, as of Tuesday, January 1, according to Ministry of Health statistics, more than 1.1 million people in Iran have been infected with the coronavirus.

He also announced that 5,519 coronavirus patients are "in serious condition" and are under intensive care.

Iranian Ministry of Health officials announced three days ago that no city is in a red zone in terms of the spread of the coronavirus, and that currently 205 cities are in an orange zone and 243 cities are in a yellow zone.

The Iranian government routinely refuses to provide disaggregated statistics on the spread of the coronavirus, the number of victims or infected people in different provinces and cities.
