Reza Pahlavi: Collapse is inevitable and we must prepare for it

Reza Pahlavi, the son of the former Shah of Iran, has said in a statement, referring to the recent widespread protests in Iran, that the Islamic Republic system is collapsing and that the work of "rebuilding a new political authority to lead the transition process" must begin now.

Reza Pahlavi says that the "prospect of collapse" of the ruling political system in Iran has become apparent, "the bed of corruption is collapsing," and "the fall of the Islamic Republic is inevitable," therefore, it is necessary to prepare for the political leadership of this transitional period.

The son of the former Shah of Iran made these remarks in a new statement released on Saturday, November 30, in connection with the recent widespread protests in the country.

He says: "November 2019 has sounded the death knell of criminals in such a way that its echoes can still be heard in all corners of the world. A resonance that has increasingly been accompanied in the minds of politicians by the question: How can we prepare for the inevitable fall of the Islamic Republic?"

Reza Pahlavi added: "Less than two years ago, in these days, after the January uprising, in a speech addressed to Iranian civil society, I emphasized the imminence and inevitability of the process of the fall of the Islamic Republic, and reminded that the prospect of the collapse of the system and its aftermath has placed before us Iranians the necessity of organizing a new authority more than ever before: the collapse of a political system requires preparation."

Reza Pahlavi, stating that “we are faced with a terrible dilemma,” wrote: “The dilemma of survival or extinction. The national and historical responsibility of each of us at this epoch-making juncture is to pave the way for the reconstruction of the country within the framework of a new civilization by correctly identifying the human and discursive indicators of a force that can shape such an authority.”

The son of the former Shah of Iran has called for “the reconstruction of a new political authority to lead the transition process,” and has emphasized that this work must begin now. He believes that it is this political leadership that will ultimately prepare the country for a legal, political, and economic transition, based on the ballot box, from Islamic rule to Iranian rule.

Reza Pahlavi sees an important responsibility in shaping and providing a “new political authority” or “transitional leadership,” but he has emphasized: “Providing the tools of national readiness for the political leadership of the transitional period is the responsibility of all of us. As a soldier, I will not hesitate for a moment to shoulder my share in this national task… However, political tools must be entrusted to the capable hands of wise politicians.”
