Official coronavirus statistics in Iran; Warning about a rise in the number of victims again in March

As daily cases of coronavirus infection continue to increase, a number of experts have warned that the daily number of coronavirus cases will reach five digits in the coming days and that the death toll will rise again in March.

On Thursday, January 20, the Iranian Ministry of Health announced that 20 more people had died from the coronavirus and more than 4,600 people had been infected in the past 24 hours.

According to this report, the total number of deaths from Corona in Iran has reached 132,152 people and the total number of infected patients has reached 6,236,567 people.

The official coronavirus statistics are announced daily by the Iranian Ministry of Health, while officials from the Medical System Organization had previously announced the actual number to be three to four times higher.

Meanwhile, Masoud Younesian, a member of the National Scientific Committee for Combating Coronavirus, told the Hamshahri newspaper on Thursday, referring to the significant increase in the number of infected people over the past two weeks, that if this situation continues, the number of new patients daily will soon reach five digits.

Alireza Naji, head of the Virology Research Center at Masih Daneshvari Hospital, also said that the country may face a new peak of the disease in March, which could even increase the number of deaths.

Nader Tavakoli, deputy director of the Tehran Province Coronavirus Response Headquarters, announced on Wednesday, January 19, that the Omicron strain was "predominating" in the province, saying that nearly 45 to 50 percent of cases in Tehran were Omicron.
