Execution of two prisoners in Adel Abad prisons in Shiraz and Khorram Abad

HRANA News Agency – The sentence of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was carried out today, Tuesday, January 18, in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz. He had been transferred to one of the solitary confinement cells of the prison the previous day to carry out the death sentence. Also, on Sunday, January 16, a prisoner was executed in Khorram Abad Prison on charges of murder.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists Association in Iran, today, Tuesday, January 18, 2021, a prisoner was executed in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.

The identity of the prisoner, who was previously sentenced to death for murder, has been confirmed by HRANA as “Sajjad (surname unknown) from the Saadat Ward of Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz.” He was transferred to one of the solitary confinement cells in the basement of the prison yesterday to carry out his death sentence.

This citizen was arrested about three years and six months ago on charges of murder during a clash. An informed source told HRANA: “During a mass clash, where officers were also present at the scene, one person was killed. Sajjad had a Kalashnikov in his hand, and even though the victim was killed with a Colt cartridge, they attributed the murder to him. Sajjad had denied the murder until the moment of execution.”

The Iranian Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of a prisoner in Khorramabad Prison on Sunday, January 16.

The prisoner, identified as Muslim Agha Mirzaei, 30, had been sentenced to death on charges of "premeditated murder."

The report quoted an informed source as saying: "Muslim was a construction worker and had been in prison for two years on this charge. The murder that Muslim committed was during a dispute in support of his friend's sister."

As of the time of writing this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by the media inside Iran or official sources.

According to the annual report of the Center for Statistics, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran, at least 299 citizens were executed and 85 others were sentenced to death between January 1, 2021 and December 20, 2021. Among those executed, four child criminals were executed.

According to the same report, more than 88 percent of executions carried out in Iran are not reported by the government or judicial institutions, which human rights organizations call "secret" executions.
