Union protests continue; Iranian teachers gather in more than 60 cities

Iranian teachers once again gathered in more than 60 cities on Thursday, December 1, to protest the failure to implement the ranking plan and the failure to increase their salaries.

According to the Telegram channel of teachers' unions, they are demanding the implementation of a job ranking plan and an increase in salaries by 80% of university faculty members' salaries.

Payment of severance pay and implementation of the salary equalization law, based on the Civil Service Law, for retirees were other demands of the protesters.

Teachers from the provinces of Lorestan, Kurdistan, Alborz, Tehran, Khuzestan, Yazd, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, North Khorasan, Gilan, Fars, Semnan, Qazvin, Isfahan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Mazandaran, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Markazi, Zanjan, Hamedan, Gorgan, Khorasan Razavi, and Kerman were present at these gatherings.

Images of these gatherings posted on social media indicate that security agencies have asked teachers to refrain from gathering. These videos include teachers protesting in Fars province, who insist that their gathering is a union gathering and that no one can stop it.

A video has also been released of a gathering of protesting teachers in Tehran, one of whom, referring to the numerous principles of the Islamic Republic's constitution, says that according to the law, a teacher, worker, or retiree should be able to own a home, but the Iranian government is ignoring the constitution.

Protesting teachers in Zanjan province also chanted slogans calling for the immediate release of imprisoned teachers and addressing the livelihoods of this group.

Teachers have held rallies with similar demands many times in recent months. They held rallies in about 50 cities, including on November 10.

In these gatherings, they criticized the delays and hesitation of Ebrahim Raisi's government, as well as the Islamic Consultative Assembly, in implementing their demands.
