Protests 2014; Report of the arrest of 57 citizens in North Khorasan and Astaneh Ashrafiyeh

HRANA News Agency – Media outlets close to security institutions reported the arrest of at least 57 citizens in North Khorasan Province and Astana Ashrafiyeh in connection with nationwide protests.

According to HRANA news agency, citing a student, a citizen was arrested on the threshold of Ashrafieh.

The police commander of Astana Ashrafiyeh claimed in this regard: The accused is a 29-year-old man who set fire to police vehicles during the January protests.

The Student News Agency also announced in another news report that 56 citizens were arrested in connection with recent popular protests in North Khorasan Province.

Regarding the arrest of these citizens, the North Khorasan Intelligence Directorate has claimed that these individuals are accused of destroying public property in the province.

The report does not mention the identities, dates of arrest, or charges against these citizens.

It should be noted that the gatherings and strikes of merchants and marketers began in Tehran on Sunday, January 27, and after two days, their scope went beyond the markets and commercial centers. With the joining of students, citizens, and various social strata, these protests became one of the most widespread protests in recent years.
