Yazd Friday Imam: Keeping dogs at home is the enemy's plan to reduce the country's population

Mohammad Reza Naseri, the Friday prayer leader in Yazd, has said that keeping pets such as dogs at home is a tactic "designed by the enemy" and its goal is to "reduce population and reproduction."

Speaking to officials at the University of Medical Sciences on Sunday, February 10, he criticized the allocation of foreign currency for dog and cat food and the establishment of pet treatment clinics, saying that these actions are "willing or unwilling cooperation" with the "enemy."

Mr. Nasseri said that "our enemies, especially the British, have invested in changing the culture and lifestyle of Iranian families" and are "looking for ways to replace having children in families."

Iranian government officials typically have a negative attitude towards keeping pets.

In recent months, there have been numerous reports of the sealing of pet product stores, including specialty dog and cat stores and pet shops.

"Pet shops" offer food and supplies for pets such as dogs, cats, rodents such as rabbits and hamsters, and ornamental birds such as guinea fowl, parrots, and cockatiels.

In recent years, Iranian law enforcement has imposed restrictions on keeping dogs and has banned walking dogs and bringing dogs with you on public roads.
