Obama: The nature of the terrorist threat has changed since 9/11

US President Barack Obama paid tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on Saturday, saying the nature of the terrorist threat has changed since then, but the core values that have made America great and resilient remain.
The US President has made it clear that the terrorist attacks have not changed the core values for which America is known.
Barack Obama, who dedicated his weekly radio message to the American people to the events of September 11, 2001.
He said: "Fifteen years ago, September 11th became one of the darkest days in our nation's history. The Pentagon was set on fire and nearly three thousand innocent people lost their lives."
The US President, while paying tribute to the victims of these attacks, praised the efforts and dedication of rescue workers, the armed forces, and all those who spared no effort to save and protect people's lives.
Barack Obama continued, referring to the steps the United States has taken in the fight against terrorism, saying: "A lot has changed in the past 15 years. We have dealt deadly blows to the leaders of the al-Qaeda group who were responsible for these attacks. We have brought justice to Osama bin Laden."
The US President has stated: "At the same time, terrorist threats have changed (over the years), as we saw in the attacks in Boston, San Bernardino and Orlando, Florida."
He added: "We will also continue to fight relentlessly against terrorists like Al-Qaeda and ISIS (Islamic State Group) in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and beyond, and we will destroy them, and we will do everything in our power to protect our homeland."
The US President has said: "In confronting terrorism, the main issue is how we respond to it. We must not be captive to those who want to divide us. We must not respond in a way that tears apart the fabric of our society."
On Friday, Barack Obama also called for the victims of the September 11 attacks to be commemorated in the coming days.
