Iran appoints representative to pay compensation to Ukrainian flight survivors

Mehri Safari was appointed as the special representative of the Minister of Transport and head of the headquarters for paying compensation to the survivors of the Ukrainian flight. The Iranian government is scheduled to pay $150,000 in compensation to the relatives of each of the victims of the Ukrainian plane.

Mohammad Eslami, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, issued a decree appointing a special representative to pay compensation to the families of the survivors of the Ukrainian plane crash.

The Minister of Transport's order states that "in view of her commitment and expertise in legal matters," Mehri Safari will be appointed as the Minister's Special Representative and Head of the Headquarters for Compensation Payment to the Survivors of the Ukrainian Flight." The order states that the Special Representative will follow up on the implementation of the resolution to pay compensation to the survivors of the victims of Ukraine Flight 752.

According to this decree, the designated special representative is to present the results of his follow-up on a weekly and monthly basis.

The Cabinet previously approved in December that compensation for the victims be paid to their heirs and survivors, without any discrimination based on nationality or citizenship, based on the applicable laws of the victims' countries.

According to the government's decision, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, in cooperation with other institutions, has been tasked with providing the payment of $150,000 or its equivalent in euros to the families and survivors of each victim as soon as possible.

Payment of this compensation will not prevent the criminal aspect of the matter from being pursued in the competent judicial authority.

The Islamic Republic concealed the shooting down of the plane for three days. Finally, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the commander of the IRGC’s aerospace force, accepted the fact under global pressure and in the face of undeniable evidence, calling it “human error.”

Many questions still remain unanswered regarding the downing of the Ukrainian plane, including the government and judicial authorities' silence on the trial of those arrested after the downing of the passenger plane.
