Court of Appeals upholds 100-year prison sentence for ten citizens

Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals confirmed the sentences of ten citizens in social and political fields to more than 100 years in prison, of which 53 years are enforceable.

According to this report received by Radio Farda, Sasan Niknafs, Maryam Sameghani, Alireza Hatami, Aliasghar Hassanirad, Homayoun Parhizkar, Ali Mottalibi, Amir Pourang Sarmadi Tehrani, Ataollah Rezaei, Saideh Ghorbanali, and Yasin Jamali Kasrineh have been sentenced to a total of 100 years and 4 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.

The prison sentences of these individuals were issued in December 2019 by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Salavati, and Branch 36 of the Revolutionary Court has confirmed the prison sentences of these individuals.

The court's verdict mentions "consensus and collusion against the country's security," "propaganda against the system," and "insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic and the leadership" as charges against these political and civil activists.

These individuals, who were arrested in the cities of Tehran, Gorgan, Qom, Tonekabon, etc., were also accused of supporting the monarchy.

These ten political activists have also been sentenced to two years of ban from membership in political parties and groups, from activity in cyberspace, the media, and the press, and from leaving the country.

Currently, except for Ali Asghar Hassanirad, who is in Ward 4 of Evin Prison, the rest of the individuals have been temporarily released from prison after posting bail.

According to the verdicts, Ali Asghar Hassanirad has been sentenced to 16 years and 7 months in prison on four separate charges, which is the maximum sentence that can be imposed under the Islamic Penal Code, which is 7 and a half years in prison. Homayoun Parhizkar has also received the same prison sentence.

The appeals court judge also sentenced Yasin Jamali and Alireza Hatami to 14 years and seven months, each of whom must serve the maximum sentence of 5 and a half years in prison.

Maryam Sameghani and Ali Motlabi have also been sentenced to 5 years in prison. Sasan Niknafs, Ataollah Rezaei, and Amir Pourang Sarmadi Tehrani have each been sentenced to eight years in prison, of which 5 years of this sentence is enforceable.

The latest sentence issued concerns Saeideh Ghorbani, who was sentenced to 3 years in prison, with 2 and a half years of this sentence still to be served.
