The arrest of Reza Eslami and the continued lack of information about the status of this law professor at Shahid Beheshti University

Despite the arrest of Reza Eslami, a law professor at Shahid Beheshti University, by security forces in recent days, there is still no information available about the status of the case and the location of the professor's arrest.
According to news published by human rights media, this law professor at Shahid Beheshti University was arrested on Sunday, May 13, in a raid by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence at his workplace. After searching Mr. Eslami's home, the agents confiscated some of his personal belongings, including a mobile phone, several books, a laptop, and some of his academic pamphlets, and took him to an unknown location.
After the news was published, Gholamhassan Esmaili, a spokesman for the judiciary, denied on Tuesday, March 20, that Mr. Eslami had been arrested at his office at Beheshti University, claiming that he had not been arrested at the university. He also said that the reason for the presence of security forces at Shahid Beheshti University was to obtain some documents that he considered “criminal.” However, no information has been released about the contents of these documents so far.
Reza Eslami holds a doctorate in law from McGill University in Canada and is a professor of human rights and environmental law at Shahid Beheshti University. According to some human rights activists, security agents have prevented his family from informing them about his arrest by promising his release.
The US State Department has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of dissidents and protesters, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens, including civil and trade union activists, by the ruling regime in that country.
