Biden: If Putin invades Ukraine, sanctions will be imposed

US President Joe Biden has announced that he will consider sanctions against Putin if Russia invades Ukraine. The US president said that the attack would be the largest invasion since World War II and would change the world.
US President Joe Biden announced at a press conference in Washington on Tuesday evening, January 25, that it is possible to impose crippling sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin if Russia attacks Ukraine.
Biden did not elaborate, but he once again threatened Russia with “serious consequences” for the attack and “severe economic sanctions.” He added that ultimately it all depends on Putin’s decision on Ukraine.
With the massive deployment of Russian troops near Ukraine's borders, there are concerns in the West that the Kremlin is planning an invasion of the neighboring country. However, some observers believe that it is possible that it is aimed at convincing NATO countries to make concessions to Russia on new security guarantees.
Russia has denied any plans to invade Ukraine and resists any other Eastern European country joining NATO. Moscow has demanded guarantees that Kiev will never join the alliance.
"The biggest invasion since World War II"
Biden said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine could be "the biggest invasion since World War II," given the large Russian military presence near the border. The US president stressed that such an action would change the world.
Russia has reportedly deployed around 100,000 troops along its border with Ukraine.
Following the deployment of Russian troops to the Ukrainian border, the United States has also put 8,500 of its military personnel on alert. These units are on alert at the behest of President Joe Biden and on the advice of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
