Corona crisis: America has more than 5 million infected, Brazil has 100,000 victims

The number of coronavirus cases in the United States has surpassed five million, and countries such as the United Kingdom and Greece are experiencing new waves of infections. So far, more than half of all COVID-19 cases have been identified in three countries: the United States, Brazil, and India.
Sunday, August 9, 2020; Today, New Zealand celebrates its 100th day without a new case of coronavirus, but officials continue to urge citizens to follow health recommendations, given the return of a new wave of infections in some countries.
New Zealand's Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield says the day is "an important milestone" but that it should not be taken lightly. There are currently 23 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand, all of whom have travelled overseas and are in quarantine.
The experience of Vietnam, which went about 90 days without identifying a new case of infection and is now again struggling to combat the spread of the coronavirus and the spread of COVID-19, has sounded the alarm for many countries.
Vietnam is not the only example. Britain is one of the countries in Europe most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with 312,500 cases as of Sunday, second only to Spain.
Restrictions and adherence to health guidelines in the UK have significantly reduced new cases of infection since about two months ago, but a new wave of infections appears to have begun, the main causes of which are said to be openings and summer travel.
Britain: Highest daily cases in 45 days
The UK Department of Health announced on Sunday that 1,062 new cases of coronavirus had been identified in the country in the past 24 hours, the first time in a month and a half that daily cases had exceeded 1,000. The number of new cases had been recorded a day earlier at 758.
Despite this, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson once again emphasized the need to reopen schools, calling it a “national priority.” He stressed in a tweet that it would be socially intolerable and morally irresponsible to keep schools closed for longer than absolutely necessary.
Greece: Most cases since the beginning of the crisis
Another European country that has been hit by a new and severe wave of the coronavirus outbreak is Greece, which, due to its relative containment of the pandemic and heavy dependence on tourism revenue, has issued permits for the resumption of many businesses since the beginning of the summer holidays.
"TagsShow", the website of German Channel One television, reported, citing a Greek government official, that 203 new cases of infection were identified in the night ending on the evening of August 9, which is the highest daily number since the beginning of the Corona crisis in February.
There have been 555 new cases of infection in Germany in the past 24 hours. Greece has a population of about 10.7 million, and Germany has more than 83 million.
Half of those infected in the US, Brazil and India
The United States, which has been the country most affected by COVID-19 since the first weeks of the global coronavirus pandemic, remains in this position, and the number of identified cases there exceeded 5 million on Sunday, August 9th.
According to a list provided by researchers at the American Johns Hopkins University, the number of coronavirus victims in the United States had exceeded 162,600 as of Sunday evening.
After the United States, Brazil is in second place with about 3.12 million infected people, with the number of deaths reaching nearly 100,500.
India is another country with millions of confirmed cases. As of Sunday, India's total number of confirmed cases had reached 2.153 million, with nearly 43,400 deaths from COVID-19.
According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, as of August 9, more than 19.7 million people have been identified as infected with the coronavirus in 188 countries, and more than 728,000 people have died from COVID-19.
Thus, the United States, Brazil, and India, with more than 10 million identified cases, account for more than half of all cases in the world.
