Narges Mohammadi's brother: Stop making false accusations against Narges

Narges Mohammadi's brother, the vice president of the Center for Human Rights Defenders, has condemned the behavior of judicial and security officials towards his sister in an open letter. He has considered his sister's defense of people's rights to be the reason for the cruel and illegal treatment she has received.

In an open letter, Mehdi Mohammadi linked the illegal and unimaginable behavior his sister endures to her activities in defending people's rights.

The letter, dated June 2020, states, among other things, that earlier, instead of sending her to the hospital, the officers had brought a doctor to her bedside for a medical checkup, and on May 6, they sent the judge to prison to receive her final defense.

Mehdi Mohammadi asks: "In the opinion of so many prison officials and so many security forces, why are they taking such precautions to get her out of prison? Has Narges committed a terrorist act? Was she a drug trafficker or an international murderer who is committing such disgusting acts in transferring her from prison, or are they trying to play with her nerves?"

The aforementioned letter states: "What kind of prison order did Narges disrupt by holding meetings in prison for prisoners, or by holding a sit-in for the November deaths, that this is considered an accusation? Narges is a Muslim woman who is respected by all human rights organizations in the world for the legitimacy of her struggles. Would any free and believing Muslim accept that she would dance and stomp in front of a number of prisoners and prison guards on the day of mourning in the month of Muharram? What are these false accusations that the Islamic Republic attributes to its principled opponents? Is it anything other than wanting to tarnish her efforts to keep the rights of the November victims alive?"

Narges Mohammadi, the vice president of the Iranian Center for Human Rights Defenders, has been in prison since May 5, 2015, serving a 16-year sentence. Six years of this sentence were issued for propaganda against the regime and another 10 years for her activities in the “Step by Step to Abolish the Death Penalty” campaign. She, who was serving her sentence in Evin Prison, was forcibly and physically transferred to Zanjan Prison by the head of Evin in January 2019. The reason for this transfer was Ms. Mohammadi and several other prisoners’ sit-in in solidarity with the victims of the floods and earthquakes and the November protests at the Evin Prison office.

Shirin Ebadi, a lawyer and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has accused the Ministry of Intelligence of plotting to kill Narges Mohammadi.
