Brian Hook: The Islamic Republic has spent $16 billion of Iranian people's money in Syria and Iraq

Brian Hook, the US State Department's special representative for Iran, announced in an interview that the Islamic Republic of Iran has spent $16 billion on its militias in Iraq and Syria.

Reuters reported on Thursday, November 29, that Mr. Hook made these remarks in an interview with Al Arabiya TV. Brian Hook, without providing further details about the time period or the groups receiving the funds, said that the Iranian people are the priority for using this money.

Mr. Hook said the United States looks forward to Iraq taking steps to move away from economic dependence on Iran.

The US State Department's special representative, who is in Saudi Arabia, added in the interview that during his current visit to the Saudi kingdom, discussions were held regarding the investigation into the attack on Aramco facilities.

Brian Hook added that discussions are ongoing with the Security Council on how to respond to the Aramco attacks.

The Abqaiq and Khurais facilities belonging to the state-owned oil company Aramco in eastern Saudi Arabia were attacked on Saturday, September 13.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo immediately blamed Tehran for these attacks, writing on his official Twitter account on Saturday evening, September 13, that while Rouhani and Zarif pretend to be diplomatic, Tehran is behind nearly 100 attacks on Saudi Arabia.

He added in the tweet that despite all calls for de-escalation, Iran has now launched an unprecedented attack on the world's energy supply, and there is no indication that the attacks are coming from Yemen.
