Legal review of Donald Trump's tax case underway

The New York Times obtained a portion of Trump's tax returns shortly before the US presidential election. Now, following a court ruling, the New York Attorney General is requesting an examination of the former president's tax records.

Donald Trump refused to release his tax returns during his four years in office, a phenomenon unprecedented in American political history.

The New York Times obtained a portion of Trump's tax returns before the 2020 US presidential election on November 3. The newspaper published a report on Trump's tax payments.

Now, however, it is said that the issue has taken on broader dimensions. The US Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the New York judiciary, despite Donald Trump's objections and protests.

In this way, the state's judiciary can request access to Donald Trump's tax records.

In August 2019, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance asked Donald Trump to turn over his tax returns to tax inspectors for review.

The case concerns Trump's tax returns from 2011 to 2018. Trump refused to comply with the Manhattan prosecutor's request until the end of his term as president.

The issue of hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels and to actress and Playboy magazine star Karen McDougall has also been re-examined.

Trump is accused of paying hush money to these two individuals before the 2016 election. Cyrus Vance has announced that the investigation into Trump's financial and tax records has now taken on much broader dimensions, despite the protests of his legal team.

The release of Donald Trump's tax documents could not only shed light on the assessment of the assets and financial activities of the Trump Organization, but could also reveal his possible tax violations.
