The seventh ceremony of the martyr of the path to freedom, Mehdi Zare-Ashkazari, was held in a different way in the city of Yazd.

Mehdi Zare-Ashkazari, 31, from Ashkzar, Yazd, was arrested during the protests and temporarily released after severe torture. After his release, he fell into a coma and died in hospital 20 days later. He was a former pharmacy student at the University of Bologna in Italy, and his death received widespread coverage in the Italian media. While he was still alive, Mehdi Zare-Ashkazari had his friends film his tortured body and announce that he would send the video to the Italian ambassador to Iran.

Mehdi Zare's body was buried on Saturday, January 1, in the Ashkezar Cemetery in Yazd, next to his mother's grave.

Yazd is one of the most religious and fanatical cities in Iran, but the seventh ceremony of this zealous young man was held in a different way in this religious city. The people of Yazd who attended the seventh ceremony of Mehdi Zare announced their protest against his murder by chanting slogans and clapping. The funeral of this young man was held with joy instead of lamentation and crying, and then a large photo of him was sent into the sky with many balloons as a symbol of freedom.
