Behnam Irani released from prison after six years in prison

HRANA News Agency – A few minutes ago, Pastor Behnam Irani, a Christian prisoner in Karaj Central Penitentiary, was released from the prison after serving a six-year sentence.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, today, Monday, October 16, 2016, Pastor Behnam Irani was released from Karaj Penitentiary Prison after serving 6 years in prison.

Behnam Irani was arrested in 2006 for his church activities, accused of holding prayer and worship services at home and spreading Christian evangelism, and spent several months in detention until he was released from prison on bail.

On March 25, 2007, Branch 30 of the Tehran Court of Appeals sentenced him to five years of suspended imprisonment on charges of "acting against national security."

Security officers then stormed his home in Karaj on April 15, 2010, and arrested him after mistreating and beating him.

This time, the court sentenced Behnam Irani to 1 year in prison on the charge of "propaganda against the system," and for this reason, his previous 5-year suspended sentence was also enforced.

Mr. Irani spent most of his imprisonment in Karaj Central Penitentiary. After his release, he was welcomed by his family and friends.
