The latest report on economic freedom in the world; Iran ranks 143rd

The Canadian Fraser Institute published its latest report on economic freedom in the world on Thursday, September 11; Iran ranked 143rd in the report.

This report examined the economic conditions of 162 countries in the world in 2017.

The report mentions Hong Kong and Singapore as the most economically free countries, and Venezuela and Libya as the two countries at the bottom of the table.

Two Asian countries, Hong Kong and Singapore, had also ranked highest in previous years' reports; Hong Kong has had the worst ranking in the world's economic freedom table since the 1980s.

In the new Fraser Institute report, these two countries are followed in order by New Zealand, Switzerland, the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Mauritius in Africa.

The 10 countries with the least free economies in the world are, in order, Venezuela, Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, Egypt, the Republic of the Congo, and Iraq.

Iran ranks 143rd in this table, unchanged from the 2015 report. Iran's rank in the 1980s and 1990s was 99.

The Fraser Institute took into account factors such as the size of governments, taxes, land ownership rights, and the degree of freedom in international trade in this ranking.

Countries that rank highest also enjoy greater civil and political freedoms, and gender equality is also greater in these countries.

Also, people in countries at the top of this table have an average life expectancy of 79.5 years, while the average life expectancy in countries at the bottom of the table is 64.4 years.

Some other important countries ranked in the Fraser Institute report are as follows: Japan (17), Germany (20), Italy (46), France (50), Mexico (76), India (79), Russia (85), China (113) and Brazil (120).
