Denial of news of Nazanin Zaghari's release in exchange for payment of UK debt

A British Foreign Office official denied reports of an agreement with Iranian authorities on the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. The two countries have consistently claimed that the issue of Britain's debt payment to Iran has nothing to do with the Nazanin Zaghari case.

Reuters news agency, citing a British Foreign Office official, denied the news that the country had reached an agreement with the Islamic Republic's authorities on the release of Nazanin Zaghari.

Both Iran and Britain have repeatedly emphasized that the issue of paying Britain's debt to Iran has nothing to do with the Nazanin Zaghari case.

Al-Mayadeen News Network and the Islamic Republic Radio and Television reported an agreement between Iran and Britain regarding the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in exchange for Britain accepting payment of its debt to Iran.

The issue is over the UK's financial debt related to the failure to deliver Chieftain tanks to Iran. Now, Britain has announced that paying this debt in exchange for Ms. Zaghari's release is not correct.

On Sunday, May 2, Al-Mayadeen News Network reported in another report about a prisoner exchange between the United States and Iran. This news was denied by Ned Price, a spokesman for the US State Department.

Al-Mayadeen had reported that the United States had released some of Iran's financial assets, news that the United States has denied.
