Bodies of two miners trapped in Damghan coal mine found after six days

On Thursday, May 6, Iranian media reported the discovery of the lifeless bodies of Milad Roshani and Asghar Afzali, two miners trapped in Tunnel 42 of the Tazareh Damghan coal mine.

In a conversation with reporters, the CEO of the Eastern Alborz Coal Company confirmed the news and expressed sympathy for the survivors of the two deceased workers, announcing the end of the search operation after six days of efforts by 150 rescuers.

According to officials at the East Alborz Coal Company in Shahrood, the deceased workers were both under 40 years old and married.

The coal mine accident occurred around noon on May 1, during mining, following the sudden collapse of the workshop roof in Tunnel No. 42 of the Tazareh Large Mine, one of the four mines of the Eastern Alborz Coal Company.

The reasons for the incident are still unknown. However, Mohammad Taghi Goli, the Public Prosecutor and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Damghan, has announced that a legal case has been filed in connection with the incident.

Every year, a large number of Iranian mine workers suffer accidents and even lose their lives due to failure to observe safety precautions, especially by their employers, while only a portion of these accidents are reported in the media.

The responsible institutions of the Islamic Republic generally refuse to provide any reliable and clear statistics on this matter.
