Jahangiri: Even Iran’s Friendly Countries Don’t Dare to Buy Oil from Iran

Iran’s First Vice President once again reported economic prosperity and bright prospects, but at the same time stated that Iran’s friendly and neighboring countries do not dare to buy oil from Iran

Isaac Jahangiri, Iran’s First Vice President, said that American sanctions pressure has caused even Iran’s friendly countries to almost lack the “courage” to buy oil from the country.

Jahangiri, speaking today, Monday, December 2, and coinciding with the “23rd National Day of Exports,” did not deny economic turmoil in the Islamic Republic due to oil sanctions, but stated that despite these sanctions, Iran’s oil exports have not reached zero and the government resorts to other methods to sell oil.

He provided no explanation about the “other methods” of selling oil.

Oil and petrochemical sanctions on the Islamic Republic began two years ago by order of the US President, and in the initial phase, severe restrictions and prohibitions were imposed on the sale and export of petrochemical products. Petrochemistry, after oil, is Iran’s most important export product.

Acknowledging that “Iranian exporters cannot even transfer money for their exported goods,” Jahangiri said the decision-making and policymaking process is not always correct, and officials too “may sometimes” make mistakes.

Jahangiri also once again spoke of steadfastness and resistance in difficult circumstances. He previously considered Iran’s economic conditions in need of “surgery” and apologized to the Iranian people over the poor economic situation, saying “we are ashamed before the people.”

Reports from some Iranian media outlets in recent weeks indicate the closure of many small and large domestic industries and economic enterprises. The main reason for these closures has been stated as the inability of their owners to cover costs and purchase raw materials.
