JD Vance: We must not see the same erasure of Christians in Syria as in Iraq

Donald Trump's vice president, J.D. Vance, made statements about preventing the cleansing of Christians in Syria.
J.D. Vance, Donald Trump's vice president, spoke about supporting the Christian community in Syria in an interview with Fox News. He pointed out that America's support for extremist militant groups and the invasion of Iraq led to the destruction of the largest Christian community in history, and emphasized that this should not be repeated in Syria.
He also spoke about the recent violence by militants affiliated with the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, Abu Muhammad al-Julani, against the Syrian Alawite community: "One of the results of our attack on Iraq is that we destroyed one of the largest historical Christian communities in the world. We do not want to see another Christian community wiped off the face of the earth. Unfortunately, when America encourages these extremist radicals, as the mainstream media calls them, to take over a country, most of the religious minorities in that country, especially the Christians, are destroyed."
"But we don't want to see another Christian community disappear from the face of the earth. We are already talking to our allies and have taken steps privately to encourage them to protect minorities like Christians and Druze and other minorities that are there. This is truly outrageous."
JD Vance also added, referring to Trump's statements during his previous presidency in 2013: "We have to remember that Donald Trump, I think in 2013, said that often when the mainstream media gets behind these insurgent groups, they are the ones who want to fly planes into our buildings (referring to the 9/11 attacks). We have to remember who we are dealing with and we have to make sure that we support some of these historically minority communities. We certainly don't want to send our troops into Syria, but there is a lot we can do economically and diplomatically to protect those groups. I repeat, we do not want to let the destruction of Christian communities happen again in Syria."
