Official number of coronavirus victims in Iran moves towards 10,000

Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Health, announced the death of 116 patients infected with the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

According to IRNA, he, who presented the official daily statistics on the coronavirus in Iran on Sunday, July 1, said that including this number, the total number of victims of the coronavirus in Iran has reached 9,623.

According to Ms. Sadat Lari, 2,368 new patients have been identified in the past twenty-four hours, bringing the total number of patients infected with the coronavirus to 204,952.

The official statistics of the Ministry of Health have been repeatedly questioned by some members of parliament and members of the Tehran City Council, who have stated that the actual death toll in Iran is even higher.

The Ministry of Health spokesperson also said that 2,887 patients infected with the coronavirus are in severe condition and are under intensive care.

He declared the situation in the provinces of Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, and East Azarbaijan as red.

Iranian Ministry of Health officials do not routinely provide specific, disaggregated details of the number of infected people in different provinces.

Health Minister: We will have to live with Corona for at least two years

Stressing that no province has yet "fully experienced the first wave of the coronavirus," Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said, "We will have to live with the coronavirus for at least two years."

According to IRNA, speaking at an online meeting on Sunday, July 1, he likened the coronavirus to a "camel, a leopard, a cow," which he said "can bite, kick, and gore."

He also said that more than 87% of Covid-19 patients suffered from obesity, diabetes, and underlying diseases.

According to Iran's Health Minister, "12.6 percent of people" who died from coronavirus "had no underlying disease."

Increase in referrals of patients with coronavirus in Tehran

Alireza Zali, head of the coronavirus task force in Tehran, has reported an increase in the number of patients infected with the coronavirus in the capital, saying: "In the last two weeks, the graph of the number of patients, hospitalized people, and deaths has been changing."

According to Mehr News Agency, Mr. Zali, speaking at a meeting of the directors of Shahid Pezki University of Medical Sciences on July 2, warned about the pressure of the "new wave of Corona patients" on the healthcare system.

He has also called for more detailed planning to "counter a possible second wave of Corona."

In recent days, officials from the Ministry of Health and the National Coronavirus Task Force have had different interpretations about the coronavirus outbreak.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani considers the use of the term "second wave" of the coronavirus incorrect, saying that the first wave of the coronavirus is moving to different provinces in Iran, but some officials from the Ministry of Health are using the term "second wave" of the coronavirus.
